Serrinha Raiz
Serrinha Raiz is an acclaimed Brazilian percussionist who has directed renowned Samba Schools from Rio de Janeiro. Besides his career as Samba School Director, Serrinha has performed with important Samba musicians, including: Jorge Aragão, Monarco, Almir Guineto, and Luiz Carlos da Vila. Recognized as one of the best percussionists in the world, he is endorsed by Contemporanea Musical Instruments.
Markinhos
Markinhos began his career in the samba world at 7 years old at “Aprendizes do Salgueiro”, a junior samba school from G.R.E.S. Academicos do Salgueiro. Inspired by his father, the acclaimed Mestre Marcão, he debuted in the samba elite group in 2007, at 13 years old. Five years later, he became a director at Salgueiro. In 2019 he joined Mangueira as director of “ganzas” - the first director not originally from the Mangueira community. He is currently a director at Paraiso do Tuiuti. Throughout his career, Markinhos has been awarded several times as best chocalho section and is known for revolutionizing the way that the chocalho is played in samba baterias.
Kleyton Macedo
With over 30 years of experience in Rio Carnival parades, Kleyton Macedo has performed in top samba schools, such as: Imperatiz Leopoldinense, Sao Clemente, and Salgueiro. As a professional drummer, he has traveled all over the world playing samba. In addition to being a musician, he is also the music producer for Batuque Digital as well as several Rio de Janeiro blocos.
Waguinho do Repique
Waguinho do Repique is a director at G.R.E.S. Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and one of the top samba players in Brazil. Son of Mestre Cosme, Waguinho is responsible for the introduction of Repique Mor at Unidos da Tijuca and Salgueiro and has been part of important samba schools, such as: Grande Rio, União da Ilha, Porto da Pedra, Vila Isabel, Imperatriz, Portela, and Salgueiro.
Thalita Santos
Thalita Santos is the director of “tamborim” at G.R.E.S Unidos de Vila Isabel, one of the most traditional samba schools from Rio de Janeiro. Graduated in Music at Villa Lobos Music School, Thalita has been teaching music for over 17 years and, more recently, created the first tamborim school 100% online, where she teaches tamborim to students all over the globe.
Bloco Alegria is back to play for the Portland Summer Free For All!
This year we'll be playing once again in the epic Mt. Tabor Volcano Caldera Amphitheater. Bring a picnic, wear your dancing shoes, and join us for Brazilian songs, rhythms and dance music!

Bloco Alegria will once again march to the beat with samba percussion and dance in the Lewis Community Pride Parade!
It starts at the Lewis Elementary School at 4401 SE Evergreen Street in the Woodstock neighborhood in Portland.
A school parade that started in 2021, it was initiated by a student and put on by parents and students. It is always a lot of fun, with drumming, lots of students and parents and community members, costumes and more! Join us in the celebration!

Bloco Alegria will bring the samba explosion back to the Portland Winter Lights Festival this year! It was a lot of fun shaking off the winter grays with samba and lights last year, so come join us and dance to the energetic beats of our samba bateria’s percussion.
